This position is located in the Facility Management staff at Mesa Verde National Park in Mesa Verde National Park, CO.
This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for roads and trails maintenance work. The position provides daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work.

Duties
Operates motor grader up to and including the John Deere 772 (or equivalent), with up to 14-foot blade.
Operates a variety of industrial type wheel or track loaders (e.g., John Deere 644 and 444 size) and backhoes (e.g., John Deere up to 410 size (or equivalent) with a 1/2 cubic yard to 6 cubic yard buckets.
Responsible for all equipment under their lead and that it is serviced properly.
Maintains current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.
Passes on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor by assigning daily tasks to individuals of the work group.
Checks work in progress and upon completion to determine/ensure supervisors' instructions are being followed and to meet deadlines. Reports progress and delays to supervisor and on overall operations and problems.
Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly climbing in and out of different machines, pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation and lifting such items as opening and closing tailgates on dump trucks. Work is strenuous because of the large equipment operated, the frequent adjustments made and the adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibrations of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.
Working Conditions: Operation of large and complicated equipment in difficult circumstances increases exposure and risk of injury. Works both inside and outside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather. Ice. road oils and other items such as loose gravel and rocks create hazardous conditions. The operator is subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside, must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes while welding and/or other fumes caused by equipment or vehicles. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.
Located in Southwest Colorado, Mesa Verde National Parkwas established in 1906 to preserve and interpret the archaeological heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people. For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 26 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past while also highlighting contemporary connections. This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth. Nearby Yucca House National Monument is managed under Mesa Verde. It is an undeveloped NPS unit and protects a large unexcavated valley pueblo.
On average Mesa Verde hosts 500,000+ visitors per year. Area residents and visitors enjoy world-class outdoor recreational opportunities including skiing, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, camping, hunting, and fishing in the region. Nearby public lands include the San Juan National Forest, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and other areas in the Tres Rios District of the Bureau of Land Management. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Ability to lead other employees on engineering equipment operation projects; able to organize tools and materials for them; able to interpret blueprints, sketches, and verbal work orders for them as appropriate to the engineering equipment operation project AND possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (You must provide a copy of your Class A CDL in your application material).
