This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), DHS Headquarters, Office of the Chief Security Officer, Investigations and Operations Division.
The primary purpose of this position is to apply a range of executive protection techniques and investigative knowledge, skills, and abilities to a variety of difficult and sensitive internal and external security situations within the continental United States.
This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a Protective Security Investigator, GS-1801-13, your typical work assignments may include:
Conduct investigations regarding threats to the Deputy Secretary and designated senior leadership to determine if a statutory violation of law has occurred and recommend findings for criminal investigatory processing.
Plan and assist in executing multi-disciplinary teams comprised of federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies to create a secure environment for the Deputy Secretary.
Conduct counter-surveillance activities during advance work and protective movements.
Conduct site advance surveys of various geographic locations to ensure a safe and secure protective environment in advance of DHS personnel authorized protective security detail(s).
Coordinate and conduct protective transportation of the Deputy Secretary throughout the National Capitol Region (NCR) and CONUS locations.

Requirements

- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
- This position may be designated MISSION ESSENTIAL. You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include shift work, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.
- You may be required to work in shifts on a rotational basis in support of 24 hour operations.
- You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
- You must possess a valid automobile driver's license at the time of appointment.
- You must meet the established experience, basic training and in-service training requirements established for the enforcement of police powers, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or equivalent.
- You must successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination given by an authorized government physician. This position may be subject to periodic examinations in the future.
Qualifications
Training Requirement:
Incumbent must meet the established experience, basic training and in-service training requirements established for the enforcement of police powers, which includes the basic Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or equivalent basic agent training program administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation or U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Internal Affairs Investigations Training Program (IAITP) at the FLETC. Additionally, the selectee must successfully complete a Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) conducted at the selectee' s assigned duty location; and other in-service requirements and weapons qualifications for the enforcement of arrest authority as conferred under 1315 authority.

Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Conducting counter-surveillance activities during advance work and protective movements;
Conducting site advance surveys of various geographic locations to ensure a safe and secure protective environment;
Coordinating and conducting protective transportation for senior leadership.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
