You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the UNMANNED UNDERSEA VEHICLE SQUADRON ONE.

Duties

You will recommend program wide improvements for all engineering capabilities for Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Squadron ONE (UUVRON ONE). You will apply analytical processes to the planning, design, test, and implementation of engineering systems to meet the requirements of all stakeholders. You will lead diverse Integrated Product Teams (IPT) in the performance of system analysis, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of engineering systems and devices. You will alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions. You will consult with customers to identify and specify requirements. You will conduct technical review and evaluation of engineering proposals submitted by outside codes and contractors. You will define systems scope, objectives and develop cost estimates for new or modified systems. You will lead troubleshooting and mechanical problem resolution with the design and delivery of assigned applications. You will plan and design engineering architecture. You will evaluate final product's overall performance, reliability and safety. You will conduct experiments methodically, analyze data, and interpret the results.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is considered Key/Emergency Essentiall. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer analyzing the design, development, or testing issues of unmanned vehicle mechanical systems, subsystems, or components (e.g., main propulsion, auxiliary equipment, batter/energy systems, steering) to ensure compliance with technical requirements in the construction, overhaul, or repair of mechanical systems for autonomous vehicles. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
