The San Diego VA Medical Healthcare System is currently recruiting for a Prosthetic Clerks in Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service. The incumbent serves as the Data Entry/ Office Clerk in the Prosthetics Service throughout VISN 22.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Reviews and distribute electronic Prosthetics Service consults to appropriate purchasing agent. Assists veterans by issuing out the appropriate requested item(s) available in stock. Posts items issued from stock and complete the consult for service rendered through the Prosthetics Service software package. Procures items below the micro-purchase threshold for patients at the discretion of the Site Manager, based on consults received by the Service. Receives, reviews and distributes in-coming mail to appropriate personnel. Assists purchasing agents with packaging and mailing out supplies to the Veteran's residence. Provides additional administrative and clerical support to the entire Prosthetics Service as needed. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Uses office automation equipment such as electric typewriter, computer, word processor, facsimile machines, and copiers to communicate with others. Resolves any discrepancies with vendor and maintains accurate records of transactions before final payment to the vendor. Uses computer systems to manage and issue inventory. Enters required information accurately into a software package to properly evaluate the patient's needs and for future reference by others. Works independently under general supervision and address unique situations that may arise and/or formulate specialized work assignments. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Prosthetic Clerk/PD10643O Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Physical Requirements: Some walking Involved in collecting the documentation/data that needs to be recorded. Some lifting and stretching is required when obtaining stock Items, files, documents, printer paper, and other Items. The greatest portion of this position is repetitive typing on a computer keyboard, and glare from the computer monitor. Incumbent when needed may be required to change Ink cartridges in his /her printer, adding paper to the copier machine. Incumbent may be required to lift packages weighing up to 25 pounds and not to exceed 50 without assistance.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-05 Grade Level: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Specialized experience includes: Using word processing software and other computer applications to execute several office automation functions and creation of reports; performing a variety of duties pertaining to enrollment, eligibility verification, health benefits, using medical terminology, and inventory programs while supporting the agency's missions. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school (transcript required). OR Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-XX level.
