This position is located within Facilities Management Service at the VA Hudson Valley HCS - Castle Point location. The purpose of this position is to function as an HVAC Worker. May require travel to the CBOCs and each campus to perform the functions of the position description.
Duties
The Incumbent assists on repairing of the Medical Centers central multi zone Air Conditioning system.
Receives specific assignments or oral instructions from supervisor or journeyman Mechanic/Operator of
the A/C Shop who is responsible for each job through completion.
The work may not be supervised during progress; however, periodic inspections will be performed by the
foreman to ensure that work is up to standard and that written and verbal instructions are being followed.
Assignment may require assistance from supervisor or journeyman when performing more complex
aspects of the position. Incumbent will perform some light troubleshooting using the proper equipment for
testing.
Incumbent provides preventative maintenance inspection (PMI) and maintenance for all window
type, package type and centralized air conditioning units, fume hoods, exhaust fans, fan coils, etc.
Incumbent is responsible to clean all condensers, filters, motors, compressors, coils, fans, grills, frames, etc.
Incumbent cleans pneumatic compressors, air driers, electronic filters and dehumidifiers. Incumbent
replaces all types of filters, (i.e. plates, bags, metal frame type and roll type, etc.).
Incumbent cleans cooling towers.
Incumbent always monitors oil levels and replenishes oil as necessary on pneumatic compressors, air
compressors.
Assists mechanics in performing necessary PM's on all types of HVAC and mechanical equipment, (i.e. greasing bearings, motor adjustments, alignments and replacement of belts, sheaves and motors.)
Assists in the repairs of A/C related water leaks, pull and cleans chilled water strainers.
Repairs minor damage to air handlers, including duct work and exhaust fans, painting HVAC and mechanical equipment as needed.
Incumbent adheres to housekeeping policies consistent with maintenance and facility guidelines.
Incumbent assists wherever needed during an emergency.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The duties require considerable movement around the hospital and involve bending, lifting, work from ladders and scaffolding and platforms, both in and outside the building, and crawling through restrictive areas. The incumbent must occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing
50 pounds or more with proper equipment. Assignments may require him/her to stand, stoop, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
