You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in the Navy Medical Research Center (NMRC) of NAVMEDRSCHCEN SILVER SPRING MD.
Duties
You will serve as Paralegal Specialist under the supervision of Counsel or Intellectual Property Counsel providing legal and office management support.
You will prepare all forms, applications, and letters related to the filing and prosecution of patent applications using the Manual of Patent Examining Procedures (MPEP).
You will maintain all files of patent cases assigned as well as be responsible for tracking maintained files in order to appraise the command of the status of applications and upcoming fees.
You will be responsible for compiling and reporting on legal and administrative searches as directed by the organization.
You will be responsible for interfacing with inventors, in the absence of the Counsel or Intellectual Property attorneys.
You will prepare documents and letters related to other legal matters as directed by Counsel.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Interpreting legal decisions through a practical knowledge of body/systems of laws, regulations and legal precedent;
Managing a legal office through a practical understanding of legal office function, including docketing, electronic and manual filing, and document preparation;
Conducting legal research through legal computer search engines, such as West Law or Lexis-Nexis, for analysis of issues of fact and law in order to draft a brief of findings; AND
Utilizing patent procedural/authorizing/examining guidance, (e.g., Manual of Patent Examining Procedures (MPEP)), and other commercial legal publication in order to answer patent filing and prosecution procedure questions.

Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position.
