This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
Duties
This occupation is being considered for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner.
Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
Trains staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel.
Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit.
Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants.
Responsible for the coordination of activities with other services, including rearranging work schedules during remodeling, painting and relocation of offices, clinics or patient wards and other duties which help coordinate moves.
Routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner.
Responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment.
Performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Flex schedule of 6:00am - 3:30pm (8 days), 6:00am - 2:30pm (1 day), every other Friday off.
