This position is under the Health Administration Service at the Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia, MO, which is a Complexity Level 1c facility. The purpose of the Lead Transportation Assistant is to coordinate the functions of VTS and other services in the medical center to ensure that patients are processed and transported in a safe and timely manner.
Duties
The Lead Transportation Assistant is responsible to the supervisor for ensuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the team are carried out by performing a range of duties such as distributing and balancing the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization. Assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload and that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work and makes day- to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly. Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work and maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended - preparing production reports as requested. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintains a current knowledge of and answers questions related to procedures, policies, directives, etc. Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up, checking on work in progress or spotchecking work not requiring review (e. g., filing or direct services). Reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards - referring to supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards. Monitors working conditions such as seating, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc. Approves leave for a few hours or for emergencies. Informs employees of available services and employee activities. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems. Provides information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/12/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience:
GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or above the next lower grade level or the equivalent, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of Veteran Transportation Service (VTS), clerical support in a hospital ward, knowledge of patient admissions (determining eligibility) and outpatient processing procedures. verifying and coordinating travel benefits, processing travel requests, preparing itineraries, or verifying and maintaining reimbursement claims for travel.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-7 level.

Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary but may involve some standing and walking to outlying areas. Some bending, lifting, or carrying of light items may be required.
