The Industrial Equipment Mechanic will install, repair, modify and maintain equipment and machinery. Lays out work, determines requirements, draws materials and carries assignment to completion utilizing established trade techniques and adhering to safety requirements and national and local codes.

Duties

This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Per the AFGE Master Agreement, the Area of Consideration will be: 1st Area of Consideration - Current Facility and CBOC employees; 2nd Area of Consideration - VA Nationwide applicants. Duties Include: Examines and troubleshoots equipment, machinery and systems to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repairs. Determine the nature and extent of repairs necessary and make needed repairs by replacing, reworking, or refinishing worn or damaged parts and components. Determines the nature and extent of required repairs by checking equipment for malfunctions, broken or worn parts, leaks, feedback, interference and tracing wires. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including Pneumatic tube. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including patient lifts. Installs and repairs equipment and machinery such as complex chemical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic vacuum, and pressure systems which may include water, steam, air, and/or gas under pressure and piped lines associated with equipment serviced. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including domestic water system to include pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, and heat generators; irrigation system to include piping and fixtures. Disassembles and repairs general machinery, equipment, and systems including sterile processing equipment to include steam sterilizers, cart washers, sanitizers, and autoclaves. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Sunday-Thursday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Physical Requirements: Frequently handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally moves objects weighing 50 to 100 with assistance and/or the use of carts. They are required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, knee bend. stoop and work in cramped positions for sustained periods of time. They must exercise normal care and practice all safety regulations during the performance of duties to prevent injury. Working Conditions: The position performs work inside and outside in hot, cold or a combination of temperatures. Work is sometimes performed in areas that are inadequately lit, ventilated; and heated. Work is performed throughout SLVHCS which includes all wards, laboratories, and facilities and may have the potential for exposure to infection and contagious disease. Exposed to infrared, ultraviolet radiation and fumes from welding and brazing. Subject to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes and bums. Occasionally climb and work from ladders and staging exposing the employee to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling.
