Duties
This position will allow you to use your experience to provide clerical and administrative support to professional and technical staff by using office automation hardware and software. This position starts at a salary of $37,696.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $54,625.00 (GS-06, Step 10) with promotion potential to $60.703 (GS-7 Step 10). Using desktop publishing and related software to prepare various reports, brochures, and publications
Manipulating office automation software capabilities to enhance the presentation of data; and develop new methods for automating administrative reports by considering the interrelationships between the nature of the information, its uses, and form
Planning and carrying out assignments, resolving most of the conflicts that arise, and coordinating the work with others
Maintaining a variety of agency directives, manuals, and regulations
Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Using computer software to create documents, including spreadsheets, databases, and graphics
Answering the telephone and greeting visitors, referring callers to appropriate staff member or supervisor
Transmitting and receiving documents and messages electronically using personal computers and/or workstations networked or linked to other computers or workstations
Taking messages for individuals not immediately available and providing readily available information to inquiries of a general nature
Preparing routing slips for incoming publications and other materials
Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Operating desktop publishing software used in the preparation of various reports, brochures, and publications that highlight office functions and activities
Operating word processing software and computer hardware to produce, store, and retrieve drafts of a variety of document types
Filing a variety of materials associated with the functions of the office to which assigned
Maintaining a variety of agency directives, manuals, and regulations
Performing miscellaneous duties such as making travel arrangements and preparing travel vouchers; maintaining time and attendance reports; making copies; arranging for conference rooms and notifying participants of meeting dates and times
Education Substitution GS-05: You may substitute the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-5 grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
GS-6: There is no education substitution for the GS-6
Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100%.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
