This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, and Adirondack Mountains to the east.

Duties

Perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with an alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis. Conduct evaluations of Soldiers, family members, retirees, and eligible Federal civilian employees referred for consultation. Hold primary case management responsibility for patients, using professional knowledge of outpatient and inpatient addiction medicine programs and alcohol and drug rehabilitation program concepts. Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans. Conduct ongoing review of patient progress, evaluate and modify treatment plans to meet changing needs.

Requirements

• Travel away from normal duty station 5% of the time.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Drug testing authorized in accordance with requirements of AR 600-85, chapter 5-8(c)7 for positions that provide direct rehabilitation and treatment services to identified alcohol or illegal drug abusers.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (condition of employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• Incumbent will be required to be screened for applicable immunizations and are subject to missing/required immunizations.
• Incumbent must qualify for and maintain credentials as a masters level social worker under clinical supervision.
• Must fulfill continuing education requirements to support domestic violence and child abuse ongoing education as well as for licensing requirements.
• Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Saving certification for the duration of employment.
• One year probationary period.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Substance Abuse) : Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcript.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. License: This position has a license requirement. You must provide a copy of your current, active, valid, unrestricted masters of social work clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
