About the Position: Performs crisis intervention, risk and clinical assessments, case management, command consultation and administrative tasks to prevent and treat child and spouse/intimate partner abuse serving various beneficiary groups scattered over a large geographical area. Management will select at the GS-9 grade level. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.

Duties

Duties described below reflect the full performance GS-12 level. Works independently as a licensed clinical social worker and uses advanced professional knowledge and sound judgment to carry out the clinical social work component of the FAP in accordance with accepted standards of professional conduct. Obtains relevant data from legal, investigatory, medical, command, social service agencies, schools, resource programs, etc. to compile information and present for a determination of abuse or neglect to the FAP Case Review Committee (CRC). Develops treatment plans based on identified problems, psychosocial factors and treatment capabilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • PUBLIC LAW 101-647, SECTION 231, AND PUBLIC LAW 102-190, SECTION 1094, REQUIRES THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK TO SERVE IN THIS POSITION (ALSO REFERENCE DODI 1402.5 AND AR 608-18).
  • INCUMBENT IS SUBJECT TO CENTRAL REGISTRY CHECK (DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CHILD AND DOMESTIC ABUSE REPORTING SYSTEM).
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • May be required to testify before agencies and/or in court.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Some local and regional travel may be required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • The GS-11 and GS-12 positions require a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

For Military Spouse Preference: (see Additional Information section below) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes in a family advocacy environment, assessing incidents of abuse, providing counseling to abusers or victims, and developing treatment plans to those involved in abuse. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information ManagementInterpersonal SkillsPsychologyTherapy and Counseling GS-9 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
