This position is located in the Engineering Service, at the San Antonio, CBOC's and/or Kerrville campuses of the STVHCS, San Antonio, TX. The primary reason for this position is to serve as a Maintenance Supervisor in the General Maintenance shop as a Unit Supervisor which works under the general supervision of Maintenance and Operations Section, Assistant Chief Engineer and the Branch Chief of Engineering Services, receiving work direction in the form of oral and written instructions.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The maintenance supervisor assigns, instructs, directs, and reviews all operations and systems. The maintenance supervisor responsibilities are to supervise and manage the maintenance field program such as works for the Lead Motor Vehicle Operators, Motor Vehicle Operators, Visual Information Assistant, Visual Information Specialist, Locksmith, Painters, Carpenters, Maintenance Mechanic, and Maintenance Mechanic Leader serving the majority of the Main Complex 1A Facility at San Antonio, CBOC's and/or Kerrville campuses.
Serve as supervisor over the general maintenance team, supervising and managing all assign projects by engineering chief. The incumbent assigns, instructs, directs and reviews all in-house construction projects, operations, and systems.
Will assign, direct, and review the work of subordinates, and evaluate their work performance; plan, schedule, and coordinate work operations; solve problems related to the work supervised; determine material, equipment, and facilities needed; explain and gain the support of subordinates for management policies and goals.
Plan, coordinate, and direct a variety of related work operations or functions together with assigned construction projects for set for general maintenance team, and effectively coordinate projects with the Operation Team, Asbestos Abatement Team, Electrical Team, Energy Plant System, through the various supervisors and leaders. Plan and schedule work assignments on a long-range basis (e.g., 3 to 12 months) for accomplishment by the unit supervised within schedules and priorities established by higher level management in engineering.
Will assign tasks to be performed. Responsible for explaining work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and aids on difficult or new problem areas.
Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determine causes; implement corrective actions within authority to resolve work problems; and recommend solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations directed by other supervisors.
Serve as a Contracting Officer' s Representative (COR) on projects as required.
Responsible for establishing deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules.
Ensure proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are used to perform work by following safety protocols.
Provide information and advice to higher level supervisors, management officials and staff organizations of feasibility of work assignments as scheduled, budget estimates and workload data to assist in developing or reviewing proposed long-range schedules and work requirements. May required to participate with superiors in planning conferences and meetings.
Maintain a record of each inspection showing the results, any deficiencies noted and their probable cause.
Participate with management officials and/or other personnel to develop qualitative and/or quantitative work standards.
Determine training needs and arranges for accomplishment of same; sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates.
Initiate recommendations for promotion or reassignments.
Responsible for determining the resource requirements, materials and the number of subordinates and types of skill necessary to accomplish both short and long-range work schedules. Allocates resources and distributes work to groups under incumbent's control.
Recommend and participate in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedule and approve leave of subordinates.
Set performance requirements and make formal and informal performance appraisals. Counsels' employees on problems. Adjust informal complaints through discussions with employee and union representatives. Takes informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed.
Deal with employees and union representatives on employee suggestions, complaints, grievances, and other matters. Investigate grievances and complaints, resolve them informally and notify superiors of those of a serious nature.

Work is accomplished both inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, and sometimes greasy. Employee will be exposed to both high and low temperature environment. Employee's working environment will be both inside buildings and outside buildings and will involve walking, climbing (up to 50 feet), crawling, lifting, and bending.
