About the position:
This position will be assigned to the Peterson Hub located on Peterson Space Force Base.
Must be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a full range of simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers and fresh or canned vegetables.
Prepares hot cereals, broiled meats; prepares and cooks concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies; makes cold sandwich fillings.
Prepares convenience items such as frozen hash browns, fish fillets and chicken nuggets. Some cooks at this level prepare and bake pizza.
Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items; sets up and replenishes salad bar; portions foods for distribution and meal service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment.
Performs duties which include, but are not limited to, the following: roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish and poultry. Prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces and puddings without the use of packaged mixes. Adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings, performs yield testing; prepares cold food platters such as ham, salmon and roast beef platters, and salads.
Prepares entire meals which requires coordinating the cooking of several items with different cooking times and characteristics. Plans the cooking process to produce complete meals on time and at the proper temperature.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience in and knowledge of methods and procedures relating to food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, Child or Youth program, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work safely, and do simple arithmetic. Knowledge of basic sanitation, infection, and spoilage control procedures. Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment, characteristics of various foods, and the ability to season food and decide when foods are done is required. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift over 40 pounds with assistance. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must have basic knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures. Skill in performing basic arithmetic computations to multiply ingredients in a recipe or to dete1mine how many servings a container will hold. Ability to read and understand written food service material, such as food labels, standardized recipes and basic work instructions. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and have or obtain all required immunizations including annual influenza vaccine. Must have working knowledge of special and modified diets and the cooking techniques to use in modified recipes. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to complete a pre-employment physical examination and satisfactory complete 3-yr mark physical exams. Position is a position of trust.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
