The Supervisory Security Guard position is located at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Healthcare Facility, Belcourt, North Dakota. The security force performs routine patrol and surveillance activities. The work is extremely vital and effects all staff, patients and visitors.
Duties
Directs the Security Program at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Healthcare Facility and provides direct security services.
Oversees and ensures the security of the facility buildings and other property. Provides security via foot patrol, GSA vehicle and other security means.
Conducts ongoing evaluation of security program operations and recommends changes in policies and procedures.
Interviews candidates for positions; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignments; develops performance standards; approves leave; initiates disciplinary actions, prepares work schedules; reviews all reports; and initiates, monitors and evaluates work performance.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. With few exceptions by law, non-veterans who are not permanently employed at the applicable Service Unit/Area Office, cannot be selected when there are Veterans Preference eligibles available. However, permanent federal employees currently serving in a position covered by the same generic title as the one to be filled, may be selected without regard to Veterans Preference.

Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized Experience: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying. Or,
Investigation of Fitness: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidate's honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. Such investigations will be conducted under the security requirements of the hiring agency.
Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Oversees security services to ensure coverage around the clock; assesses security program to ensure compliance with safety and security regulations; prepares statistical and narrative reports; identifies staff training needs; provides surveillance of environment; provides security via foot and vehicle patrol.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
