You will serve as a RESEARCH EPIDEMIOLOGIST in the Military Population Health, Deployment Health Research of NAVHLTHRSCHCEN SDIEGO. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will supervise and mentor others, lead data analysis projects, and develop research proposals to assist the PI. You will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in providing management oversight of the Millennium Cohort Study to ensure efficient operations and data integrity. You will participate in all aspects of the research design, implementation, analysis, and presentation of results for epidemiological research projects that are conducted You will work with the study team, funding agencies, key stakeholders, and develop plans for the collection of survey data and the study research agenda. You will submit research proposals to funding agencies on topics prioritized by the Navy, DoD, civilian stakeholders. You ill prepare and submit all required documents to the institutional research board (IRB) for the protection of human subjects. You will write and prepare scientific reports and manuscripts and review reports, manuscripts, and other documents for accuracy in reported findings and their interpretation. You will present findings from research studies to appropriate government and professional organizations. You will summarize research results, prepare technical report and journal articles, present research at professional meetings, and publish results in professional journals.

Qualifications

ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE BASIC REQUIREMENT: Successful completion of a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via submitting a COPY of the complete transcripts with your application. Failure to provide the required documentation will result in an ineligible status and further removal from consideration for the position.) In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Utilizing epidemiologic research methods to directly assist a Principal Investigator (PI), (i.e. coordination of multidisciplinary investigator team; application of appropriate statistical methodology for analysis of data; participates research design, implementation, analysis, and presentation of results for epidemiological research projects; conducting population health research methods, specifically in the physical, behavioral, and mental health of a diverse population, {e.g., military service members and veterans}); Conducting research and statistical methods, with evidence of expertise in research methods, experimental design, and advanced statistical analytic techniques; Adapting or developing novel methods for recruiting participants, sampling populations, assessing constructs of interest, and analyzing data; Respond to deficiencies in existing theoretical, methodological, or statistical approaches by modifying existing approaches or by developing new, more complex, approaches that promise to more accurately address emerging issues; Writing and preparing scientific reports, manuscripts - reviewing reports, manuscripts, and other documents for accuracy in reported findings and their Interpretation; Developing improvements and modifications to established procedures or developing new procedures to address novel concepts and theories; AND Mentoring junior researchers and providing research leadership to team members in all stages of research, including the development of research ideas, (i.e., pursuit of funding; selecting research methods, populations, and measures; execution of research; statistical analysis of data; interpretation of findings; and preparation of reports and briefings). Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for the 0601 series at the GS-13 grade level.
