You will serve as a Crane Operator in the Public Works Office of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC

Duties

You will operate boom cranes (hydraulic and mechanical) of various types, such as, crawler, truck mounted and cruiser (self-propelled) at various indoor/outdoor locations where maneuverability is restricted, and accuracy is critical. You will load and unload equipment and supplies. You will operate any combination of vehicles with a gross weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, with the GVWR of the vehicles being towed in excess of 10000 pounds. You will be required to serve as part of Riggers Crew or will be required to operate or dispatch various types of Construction/Engineering support equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • The position is designated as Essential and you will be required to report during emergencies and inclement weather, unless otherwise directed.
  • Normal hearing is required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions.
  • Unassisted lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds is required. Strenuous physical effort is used when making frequent and rapid adjustments to the crane controls while making difficult lifts.
  • Rapid mental and physical coordination is required. Must reach above shoulders and use of both arms and legs are required. Depth perception and normal hearing is required
  • Work requires frequent reaching, climbing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling and prolonged standing and walking.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You may be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

For the WG-11 level, this position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Note: You must attach a copy of the license to your application package to be considered for the position. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for the WG-11 level is: Ability to do the work of a WG-5725-11 Crane Operator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following tasks: 1) Operates boom cranes to load, unload, move and position material with restricted maneuver ability requiring critical accuracy; 2) Determines the weight of the load to be lifted; 3) Rigs loads to be lifted by boom cranes. 4) Performs required operator's maintenance, inspections, and reporting; and 5) Works from hand, radio or other approved types of signals for crane operations. The Screen-out Element for the WG-08 level is: Ability to do the work of a WG-5725-08 Crane Operator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following tasks: 1) Operates boom cranes to load, unload, move and position material with unrestricted maneuverability and where accuracy is not critical; 2) Determines the weight of the load to be lifted; 3) Rigs loads to be lifted by boom cranes.
