Duties
This job opportunity is located in the Equipment Maintenance Unit, Equipment Maintenance Section, Document Services Branch, at the National Processing Center (NPC), Jeffersonville, IN. This position performs supervisory duties of the Maintenance Section, plans, coordinates and supervises the work of the Unit, which consist of the installation, modification, maintenance, testing and inspection of Bureau electronic, electrical, mechanical and related support equipment. This position is not included in the bargaining unit.
The individual selected for this position will:
Plan, coordinate and supervise the work of the unit which consists of the installation, modification, maintenance, testing and inspection of Bureau electronic, electrical, mechanical, and related support equipment.
Determine operating requirements for the unit and initiate requests accordingly.
Study repair request to determine proper phasing of work assignments. Works with suppliers and contractors, Census Engineers and equipment users and resolves problems resulting from conflicting requirements of the organization.
Works closely with staff furnishing detailed instructions to subordinates; and evaluates testing results of newly installed equipment to obtain maximum operational efficiency and conducts training on more complex task while ensuring procedures and safety rules are always observed and evaluates progress of developmental level assignments.
Renders performance evaluations, schedules, and approves leave request, recommends personnel actions, maintaining discipline, and keeps section informed of Branch policies.
Tour of Duty: Hours will be 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Positions may include evening or weekend work, hours will vary.

If the position is later determined to be permanent, it may be made permanent without further competition.
