The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is the principal fact-finding agency for the federal government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics. The BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, the U.S. Congress, other federal agencies, state and local governments, business, and labor. The BLS also serves as a statistical resource to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Duties

This position serves as a Statistical Assistant in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Dallas Regional Office, Division of Price Programs. Duties include but are not limited to: This position is responsible for a variety of statistical and administrative support tasks for the Division. At the direction of regional management, prepares Industrial Price data collection materials for assignment to field staff. Using standard templates, prepares documents and correspondence. Assists with maintaining regional inventories of collection materials and supplies used in price surveys. Updates and maintains data through the use of automated software programs. Performs additional administrative support activities such as making arrangements for meetings or other logistical arrangements, and distributing mail. Other duties as assigned. Duties at the GS-05 are developmental leading up to the full performance level at the GS-07.

  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet qualifications, legal and regulatory requirements for the position by the closing date of this announcement. For the GS-05: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes: Experience establishing employee time and attendance profiles; Working knowledge of a variety of software and computer operations; and/or Provide advice and guidance to a unit on administrative and management services. OR Education substitution: Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above high school. Equivalent combination of education post-high school (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience are qualifying.
