About the Position: You will serve as a Human Subjects Protection Officer and subject matter expert, responsible for evaluating formulated research plans and hypotheses, project plans, findings, and assessing their adequacy in the protection of human subjects.

Duties

Accountable for the quality and effectiveness of a broad, coordinated program of regulatory compliance that deals with critical scientific, regulatory, and ethical issues. Educates and advises staff to maintain a culture of compliance with all Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Army (DA) regulations and institutional policies and procedures relevant to the protection of human subjects. Interprets and implements policies and directions from the DoD, DA, AHRPO, and OHRP, as well as other federal agencies to include, but not limited to the Office of Naval Research and Air Force Human Research Protection Office. Develops innovative methods to improve the effectiveness with which programs are administered.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
• Temporary Duty travel of 10% may be required.

The education requirement can be met in the following ways: Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or Allied Sciences. Transcripts must be provided as part of the application package. A combination of education and experience - course work equivalent to a major as shown in above, including at least 24 semester hours in health sciences or allied sciences, plus appropriate experience or additional education sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of the position comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study. Transcripts must be provided as part of the application package. Specialized Experience: To qualify as a Human Subjects Protection Officer, applicants must also meet the specialized experience requirement. Specialized experience is defined as at least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing work leading research, development, and/or implementation of Human Subjects Protection Policy.
