This position is located at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona, and can be assigned to any inpatient or outpatient location throughout the medical center. The incumbent works with both medical staff providers, nursing staff, and other health care staff (clinical and non-clinical), to ensures patients received quality patient care that is consistent with the patient centered medical home principles, and that is timely, appropriate, cost effective, and sensitive.
Duties

Coordinates clinic activities and communication relevant to patient care. This includes answering and receiving phone calls, making patient appointments, and performing other necessary clerical tasks.
Taking inventory and maintaining adequate stock levels of clinic supplies and medical supplies.
Participates in orientation of new personnel.
Functions as the time keeper for the clinic.
Contacts appropriate state agencies and third party insurers to verify eligibility for alternate resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, etc.
Informs management of alternate resources to be utilized prior to Purchased Referred Care making payment to private providers.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Serves as receptionist clerk, filing, mailing, taking minutes, faxing, provide excellent customer service, maintain incoming log of mails and update patients' demographic data. OR
Have 4 years of education above the high school level. OR
Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: Schedule appointments, verify insurances and any other alternate resource, determine patient eligibility, screen claims, identify special cases, data entry, issue denials, obligate funds, familiarity with accounting for referrals, coding, medical terminology, reconcile claim status for financial report. Prepare appeal cases for review.
TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following typing skill. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
