Duties

These positions serve as the Administrative Support Assistants for the Green River District, Paria River District, or West Desert District. Greet visitors and provide basic guidance on programs and direct visitors and/or questions to the appropriate staff member when necessary. Schedule and dispatch motor vehicles and monitor the overall status of the fleet to include vehicle repairs, inspections, and maintenance as needed. Answers incoming telephone calls, determines the identity and nature of calls, answers caller's questions or directs the caller to the appropriate staff member. Issues Christmas tree, wood, mineral, recreation as well as other permits. Sells maps and brochures. Maintains files of permits issued/sold. Serve as collections officer. Process monies received through the mail and over the counter through the Bureau's Collections and Billings System. Serves as back-up timekeeper/payroll, assists staff with time and attendance records in the automated payroll system. Process daily incoming and out-going mail, receives, date stamps and distributes hardcopy mail. Prepare, edit, and finalize correspondence for office supervisors and managers. Performs various clerical support functions such as photocopying, filing, typing forms, etc. Perform administrative tasks using word processing, spreadsheets, data base management, and graphics software. Maintain the central filing system (official records, directives, BLM Manuals and Technical References).

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Administrative Assistant. Specialized experience includes clerical duties such as establishing and maintaining office files and records; entering, retrieving, and correcting data in an automated data management systems (data entry/coding); reviewing documents to ensure compliance and accuracy; performing cashier duties such as receiving monies due, issuing change and receipts, and generating bills; and utilizing computer software and office machines to complete daily tasks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials Work Environment: Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meetings and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.
