This position is located within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Oregon State Office, Oregon/Washington, Division of Lands, Resources, and Minerals.
The Bureau of Land Management has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Duties
Salary Information
GS-13 ($105,666.00 to $137,363.00 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
In this Interdisciplinary Supervisory position, the selectee will serve as the Section Chief for the Social Sciences Section.
Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
Participating in the formulation and establishment of polices and plans for the Division's programs in Oregon and Washington.
Providing leadership and direction for the overall work of the Section.
Supervising professional and technical specialists who are responsible for statewide coordination, budget allocation, and program oversight to the full array of BLM social science programs, including the recreation, National Conservation Lands, cultural resources, socioeconomics, science coordination, youth, volunteer, and community engagement programs.
Ensuring appropriate program guidance and assistance are provided to the nine districts in Oregon and Washington to ensure that decisions, practices, and plans are consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
Conducting supervisory responsibilities to include workload management, personnel actions, and actively supporting the Equal Employment Opportunity Program in day-to-day activities.

This is an Interdisciplinary position which may be filled under any of the following occupational series, depending on the qualifications of the applicant and needs of the agency:
Social Science Series, 0101
General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401
General Physical Sciences Series, 1301

All applicants must meet at least one of the following Basic Requirements for either Social Science, General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences and/or the General Physical Science series:
Basic Requirement, Social Science Series, 0101:
A. Have a degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Have a combination of education and experience - that provided you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Have four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Basic Requirement, General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401:
A. Have a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Have a combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement General Physical Science Series, 1301:
A. Have a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Have a combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education.
AND
Specialized Experience, GS-13: Have one (1) full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) Ensuring the health of ecological systems and the vitality of social and community services; (2) Evaluating, designing and implementing new processes and techniques relative to improving the health and productivity of natural resources on public lands; (3) Reviewing/tracking expenditures and workload accomplishments to ensure programs have appropriate resources; and (4) Performing a full range of supervisory duties, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of subordinate staff members.
