About the Position: Incumbent serves as a senior park ranger at a large multiple-use lake office, performing various functions in the parks and natural resources, shoreline management and lease administration.

Duties

Provide guidance to subordinates in forestry, wildlife management and fisheries programs and in the interpretive and visitor assistance programs. Monitor the parks attendance program, recommending and preparing needed changes to contract specifications Make presentations on project activities. Initiate and promote cooperation and communication with local interest groups and visitors to solicit partnership and inform and educate lake users on project's activities, policies and procedures. Close roads and areas as needed. Familiarity with critical pool elevations and the Project Flood Emergency Plan and make decisions based on the circumstances and this document. Check dam equipment gages and indicators for accuracy, and if necessary make necessary adjustments.

Requirements

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes overseeing all aspects of conservation, environmental, natural resource and recreation management at a project utilized by thousands of visitor; affects the effectiveness of resources and activities related to soil conservation, water quality, resource management, recreation management and visitor safety; planning and implementation of programs to manage natural, cultural and physical resources; administration of a Shoreline Management Program; and participating in flood control activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Biological Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or Chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsNatural Resource ManagementProgram ManagementProgram Outreach Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
