The A/C Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and modifying complex air conditioning, heating, and ventilating (HVAC) equipment and systems. The A/C equipment mechanic operates, maintains, and modifies HVAC equipment to optimize efficiency and energy-savings while maintaining environment functions, temperature, humidity, and ventilation at proper levels for patient care and other facility operations.
Duties
Troubleshoot, diagnose, replace, repair, and evaluate the HVAC systems and its subsystems and components by use of multimeters, logic diagrams, as-built electronic control drawings, electronic schematics and manufacture's literature.
Maintain familiarity with all of the subsystems and be constantly alert to analyze a failure and define the precise cause and distinct location of the failure.
Perform maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repairs of domestic and commercial refrigeration equipment and systems such as walk-in coolers, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, cascade refrigeration systems, ultra-lows freezers, computer room equipment, water coolers, and a variety of canteen cafeteria and nutrition and food service main kitchen equipment.
Lay out, fabricate, and install sheet metal and ductwork for a variety of air conditioning, heating, and ventilating applications.
Extensive knowledge of various components of HVAC systems so that the problem can be identified first, and then repaired.
Interpret engineering drawings which combine electrical and electronic schematics, logic diagrams and mechanical drawings in order to trace signal flow throughout the system while troubleshooting malfunctions of complex systems or subsystems.
Knowledge of the purpose, operation and application of electronic systems, components and controls such as electronic probes, transmitters, power supplies, transformers, air-flow measuring devices, etc.
Variety of compressors such as reciprocating, screw, scroll, etc.
Work Schedule: Sunday- Monday; four 10-hour compressed days per week; hours to be determined

Physical Requirements: Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condermers and chillers. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, frequently stretching, bending, and kneeling long periods of time. Usually works inside but is occasionally required to work outside on top of tall buildings during periods of inclement weather, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Uncomfortable face masks and protective clothing may be occasionally worn when there is a possibility of exposure to hazards, such as toxic refrigerants when making emergency repairs. Mechanic is subject to cuts, burns, electrical shocks and respiratory ailments. Exposure to concentrated amounts of refrigerant gases may cause toxic effects to eyes, skin, and internal organs.
