About the Position: Serves as a Hazardous Waste Disposer (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) providing on-site support to the Fort Carson Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division, Compliance Branch Hazardous Waste Management Program.
Duties
Responsible for collecting, identifying, transporting, processing, and disposing of all hazardous waste generated by Fort Carson operations and trading units.
Operates motor vehicles with up to 5-ton capacity and forklifts with over 10,000-pound lift capacity.
Determines the need for and makes scheduled pick-ups of hazardous waste from the various approved sites.
Serves as a point of contact for all activities involving receiving, handling, storing, shipping, and maintaining an inventory of hazardous waste and recyclable materials.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Work requires the incumbent to drive various vehicles and obtain and maintain an appropriate valid State Driver's License. Must be able to operate a forklift. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License.
- As a member of the Installation Spill Response Team, position may require individual to be on call and call back to duty may be required.
- May be required to work overtime on short notice with appropriate compensation. On occasion is required to assist other personnel or DPW Environmental personnel requiring additional temporary manpower.
- To be selected for or remain in this position incumbent is required to successfully pass mandatory environmental, Material Handling Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment training and an annual physical examination.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Hazardous Waste Disposer (Fork Life Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to provide hazardous waste storage, treatment, and disposal, clean hazardous waste spill while following safety protocols, and operate heavy equipment such as forklifts or motor vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Hazardous waste disposers perform work that requires kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing, and standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time. They use hand-trucks and other types of material handling equipment to move, load, and unload large drums and various size containers from trucks and containment areas. They frequently lift, move, carry, and load items and equipment that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). They are sometimes required to lift and move items weighing in excess of 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment and/or with the assistance of other workers.
Hazardous waste disposers work in facilities that are usually well lighted, heated, and ventilated. They also work outside and may be exposed to all kinds of weather conditions while performing their assignments. The work may be dirty and greasy. Workers at this grade level are exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, abrasions, and falls during collection and processing operations. They may also be exposed to chemical vapors, skin irritants, and caustic and poisonous items in the collection, treatment, and/or containment of hazardous wastes. In some work situations, they may have limited exposure to low levels of radioactivity. Grade 6 disposers must follow specific safety procedures and use the appropriate safety equipment including respirators, face shields, safety glasses, protective clothing, gloves, boots, etc
