About the Position: This position is located in the Office of the Commanding General, Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year-round military training. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun.
Duties
Serve as Protocol Specialist in a Protocol Office exercising oversight of the organization's functions to coordinate domestic and foreign visits.
Review and analyze completed protocol actions to determine lessons learned and to adjust procedures where necessary.
Plan, coordinate, execute and direct the conduct of official social functions.
Plan and coordinate budget and monetary resources for official social functions such as breakfast, luncheons, dinners, receptions and socials.
Develop itineraries to ensure compatibility with the scope of the event, to include social events, host ceremonies, briefings, transportation and escort support.
Ensure that each visit or function fit the precise needs of each situation concerning all of the particulars of protocol, such as technical and personal interest.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- This position requires up to 25% occasional business travel to other duty stations.
- This position requires shift work outside of normal business hours such as evenings, weekends, or holidays.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must possess the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience which includes the following: 1) planning and coordinating military social events, military and civilian visits 2) preparing itineraries for foreign visitors 3) planning events and itineraries in accordance with proper protocol regulations and policies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. (You must submit a copy of our transcripts).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
