You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECAILIST in the COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY DEPARTMENT, INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION, ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM OFFICE of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
The Environmental Division is responsible for the development and implementation of the Command's environmental plans and programs.
Duty Station: San Diego, CA
Duties
You will provide technical support for assigned environmental program (e.g. Air Quality, Hazardous Material Control and Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Environmental Quality, Pollution Prevention Program, Recycling Program, etc.).
You will provide consultation services to internal and external contacts for environmental questions related to environmental regulations.
You will coordinate, conduct and/or participate in environmental investigations, inspections and surveys to maintain compliance with various environmental rules and regulations.
You will interpret policy and program directives to provide adequate coverage for a range of subjects involving public safety and welfare and protection of natural resources that are found at FRCSW.
You will determine impact of new and revised policies, regulations and procedures on current and projected operations for assigned program(s).
You will keep abreast of current engineering and science issues as it pertains to agency and industry standards.
Requirements

- The incumbent is subject to considerable walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.

- The incumbent must be able to wear and utilize required personnel protective equipment for this position.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- The incumbent is subject to hazardous environments including industrial waste treatment facilities, oil and hazardous spill sites, facility production shops, hazardous waste collection sites, etc.
Qualifications
For a GS-0028-11 Environmental Protection Specialist
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting environmental investigations, inspections and surveys for the purpose of maintaining facility compliance with a variety of environmental rules and regulations. 2) Extensive knowledge of environmental concepts, principles, practices, laws and regulations in order to plan, organize and evaluate environmental programs such as Air Quality, Hazardous Material Control and Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Water Quality, Environmental Quality, Pollution Prevention Program, Recycling Program, Used Oil Management Program and/or Energy and Water Conservation Program; and 3) Ascertaining ways to reduce or eliminate compliance requirements through source reduction and recycling, process change or material substitution.
For a GS-0028-09 Environmental Protection Specialist
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing working knowledge of environmental concepts, principles, practices, laws and regulations in order to plan, organize and evaluate environmental programs such as Air Quality, Hazardous Material Control and Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Water Quality, Environmental Quality, Pollution Prevention Program, Recycling Program, Used Oil Management Program and/or Energy and Water Conservation Program; 2) Determining compliance with applicable laws and regulations as related to environmental protection and enhancement; and 3) Assessing and identifying ways to reduce or eliminate compliance requirements through source reduction and recycling, process change or material substitution.

For a GS-0028-11, Environmental Protection Specialist:
Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Or
Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
