This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. This position is in the Office of Investigations (OI), Office of Inspector General (OIG), which is responsible for conducting investigations of alleged fraud, waste, and abuse within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Duties
As a Criminal Investigator (Senior Special Agent), you will:
Independently plan, coordinate, conduct, complete, and report on routine as well as priority, complex, high-profile, and sensitive investigations into violations of Federal laws and regulations, violations of NARA policies and directives, or other matters as assigned.
Be responsible for leading complex assessments, reviews, initiatives, and other special projects which may concern sensitive matters involving officials, policies, and programs within NARA.
Lead and support staff on an ad-hoc basis for law enforcement operations, as well as investigative assignments, Hotline intake, and special projects.
Collect and preserve physical and documentary evidence as appropriate, and in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
Qualifications
Age Restriction: The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a law enforcement officer position. This requirement does not apply to a) Preference-eligible veterans; OR b) Individuals who are 37 years of age or older and have previously served in law enforcement officer positions that were covered by a special law enforcement retirement plan.

Medical Requirements
The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.
AND
Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position must include:
Advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At this level, qualifying experience must include planning and conducting investigations involving criminal, civil and administrative violations of federal law.
Examples of this experience are:
Responsible for leading complex assessments, reviews, initiatives, and other special projects which may concern sensitive matters involving officials, policies, and programs within the agency. OR
Serve as the subject matter expert for complex agency matters involving missing archival items, records group's issues and other technical matters involving agency holdings. OR
Work closely with personnel on complex Hotline intake matters to assist with complex complainant interviews, requests for law enforcement assistance/support, and completing Hotline outreach as necessary. OR
Ensures that assigned investigations, projects and administrative activities are planned, conducted, documented, reported, and finalized in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards, as well as the policies and priorities of the agency.OR
Leading investigations that involve matters of extreme sensitivity, and scope. OR
Independently plans, organizes, and conducts comprehensive investigations involving matters, issues, and problems for which there are few, if any, established criteria, in the shortest time-frame possible, that have been requested by the Executive Office of the President, Members of Congress, Congressional committees, the Inspector General, the AIGI, and other high echelon Government officials. OR
Leads and supports staff on an ad-hoc basis for law enforcement operations, as well as investigative assignments, Hotline intake, and special projects. OR
Directs work of other professional investigators and support staff, assigns work, provides technical advice and assistance to lower grade investigators, reviews completed work, and may provide on-the-job training for lower grade investigators. OR
Identifies and proposes the issuance or revision of investigative policies, procedures, and guidance material to support the investigative and administrative operations of the agency.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.
