About the Position: Serve as a Laborer, responsible for General Labor & Maintenance, Warehouse Support Activity and Vehicle Operation.

Duties

Wash, clean, and polish automotive equipment such as automobiles, pickup trucks, etc. Retrieve needed supplies and tools and move and hold items while maintenance workers perform needed repairs. Move supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrow or hand truck; stack materials for storage or binning; collect refuse and salvageable material. Transport bulk materials, equipment and/or passengers to and from work sites, supplies, materials, equipment, and tools or to tow equipment throughout rural and urban areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must undergo a pre-employment physical then annually thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's license to perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

I have the ability to perform common labor and motor vehicle operator duties. I am skilled in cleaning tools, equipment and work areas in a shop or similar environment. I have the ability to complete a variety of ground maintenance tasks and to work in a warehouse environment loading and unloading various supplies and materials. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Position requires frequent bending, stooping, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, working on ladders and walking. Motor vehicle operation requires light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. WORKING CONDITIONS Laborers perform work outdoors, indoors and in confined spaces. Indoor work may occur in drafty and wet places all year long. Outdoor work may be performed for long periods, under all weather conditions, all year long. Work may be performed near coworkers or may be performed alone. Floor and ground surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Incumbent is exposed to moving objects, sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, noise, and vibration from equipment. Occasionally the employee must climb and work from ladders (stationary, extension) and scaffolding, and is subject to serious injury from slipping and falling. Incumbent must work around moving objects or vehicles. Work involves exposure to dirt, grease, oils, smoke, gas, some solvents, and other mild hazardous chemicals. Exerts very heavy physical effort in doing tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing more than 50 lbs. Work requires the wear of bulky cold weather gear, gloves, and safety PPE such as safety toed boots, hearing protection, respiratory, and eye protection. Operate vehicles in all kinds of weather in a controlled traffic environment on public roads. Drivers are exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones because of serious accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. May drive in heavy traffic and highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
