About the Position: This position is with the National Guard Bureau, Joint Staff, Office of Public Affairs, Arlington, Virginia.
About the Surrounding Area: Situated in Northern Virginia on the south bank of the Potomac River directly across from Washington D.C., Arlington is headquarters to many departments and agencies of the federal government, including the Department of Defense and is the location of many national memorials and museums.
Duties
Presenting ideas in new ways to increase understanding of agency programs and policies.
Developing and executing new national and international campaigns in the field of environmental communications to convey information.
Tailoring written material, personal presentations, news conferences and public meetings, to meet the unique needs of each installation and their local communities.
Utilizing a variety of communication techniques and methods such as print and electronic media, to convey both the Agency's mission and its role in national defense.
Developing multi-organizational strategies for press coverage of complicated events and ceremonies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employee may be required to travel by regularly scheduled passenger military or commercial aircraft in performance of TDY. Locations are primarily the 54 US states and territories; however, international travel may occur.
- 24-hour on-call public affairs representative status may be required.
- Overtime may be required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Develop nationwide public affairs programs for the organization; convey information to varied audiences on the organization's community engagement and environmental programs and projects; develop recommendations to leadership that significantly modify an agency's major programs or policies; provide advice and assistance to supervisor, project officers and commanders regarding ongoing community involvement activities; participate in the planning and implementation of special events.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above]).
