This position is located in the Medical Records Department, Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to provide direct first level supervision to a team of Medical Records Technicians performing the full range of supervisory, technical, and administrative duties. Incumbent reports to the Medical Records Director.
Duties
Oversees the development, implementation, and updating of Service Unit policies regarding medical records.
Maintain compliance with accrediting agencies.
Keeps medical record manual current.
Provides work planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating subordinates' work.
Interprets regulations, requirements, and procedures.
Identifies and resolves problems and manages the methods of recording and retrieving health care date for various studies.
Coordinates orientation for health information technology students for college preceptorship.
Develops and implements policies and procedures to process legal documents and responds to related request.
Ensures all components of patient medical records are complete, accurate, and validated.
Performs yearly inventory and auditing of patient records.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: develops, directs and evaluates procedures to ensure proper filing of medical records and reports are accurate.
GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL ABILITIES: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as listed under the appropriate category below:
Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training.
Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time.
Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.
Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
