The incumbent performs duties related to the receipt, scanning, indexing, and transfer of health and administrative information. The incumbent controls all information arriving and leaving the medical center from Health Information Management Section (HIMS).
Duties
Major Duties:
Ensure that all necessary health/administrative information is integrated into VistA through personal computer (PC) scanning hardware and software.
Must index this information using PC/ VistA application bridges. After the scanning and indexing process is complete, the incumbent will verify that images are clear and indexed to the correct patient's record. The paper document will be forwarded for filing in the paper record. The incumbent makes proper disposition of documents when established records are unavailable.
Timeliness, accuracy, and organizational skills are essential to ensure that information becomes available for patient care. Communication skills are required to properly coordinate record transfer, record follow-up, and record scanning and indexing functions with clinical team members.
Must be flexible in order to manage a workload that is not consistent from day-to-day to undertake a variety of other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of HIM's or File Room Supervisor.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am -4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/25/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-04 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-03. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC scanning applications, and numerous VistA applications.
Uses computer skills to carry out duties associated with scanning, indexing of images, errors, and other tracking data.
Knowledge of the content and format of medical and administrative records, including the filing sequence of documents, as well as filing systems and procedures. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 2 years above high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond GS-04.

Physical Requirements: The work requires some standing, bending, stretching, walking, lifting, and pulling. However, some portions may be sedentary at times.
