Duties
Serves as Chief of the Analytical Team
Plans, coordinates and supervises the work of an organizational unit engaged in accomplishing a variety of high-level chemical analyses and physical tests.
Provides technical advice and opinions to contracting officers and other customer technical and quality elements regarding seriousness of test failures and their effect on serviceability or appearance of end items.
Maintains liaison with research and development elements of the respective Military services in developing and recommending test method and offering technical comments pertaining to sufficiency of proposed and existing test methods.
Provides advisory services to contractor, other testing centers and laboratories in resolving technical problems encountered.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Chemist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
A. Basic Requirement for GS-1320 Chemist: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. *Applicants MUST submit a copy of transcripts showing they meet this requirement.
B. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Providing quality assurance support by verifying acceptability of items through physical and chemical tests and analyses.
Developing, and evaluating physical and chemical methods used to perform analysis of difficult, complex and unusual samples.
Adapting or modifying established methods and procedures for the analysis of a wide variety of samples for which there are no specific testing methods or precedents available.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
