Salary: $70 827 - 166 185 per year

Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. All initial attorney positions to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month (temporary) basis. This position is located in Austin, Texas.

Duties

The United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas is currently seeking an experienced and motivated attorney for a position as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division in the Austin Office. This position will focus on white collar/fraud criminal activities. The selected attorney will have responsibility for overseeing the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of white collar crimes, to include: all manner of mail and wire fraud schemes, criminal healthcare fraud, Ponzi and pyramid schemes, shareholder and other investment schemes, elder fraud, federal benefits fraud, public corruption, environmental crime, and other white collar crimes. The selected attorney will handle all aspects of investigations and cases, including working with investigative agents to gather evidence and develop witnesses, handling grand jury proceedings, preparing prosecution memos and indictments, writing briefs, and handling all related hearings and trials. The position calls for an attorney with a thorough knowledge of federal criminal procedure, strong research and writing ability, an ability to work closely with investigative agents, a working knowledge of the major federal fraud statutes, and experience in handling complex investigations and trials. The attorney may also handle other types of cases as needed. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Hiring preferences include strong academics, outstanding organizational skills, superior legal writing and research ability, demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment and courtroom skills, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
