This position is located in the Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS), Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEHE), Great Plains Area Indian Health Service (GPAIHS).

Duties

Serves as the I-STAR site administrator granting access to the site and assessing site performance. Participate in CMS or Joint Commission mock survey team activities and will provide Governing Body with timely and accurate reports. Member of Great Plains Area Safety Committee. Develops training and education materials for staff at the Area and Field level. Assists programs in finding and hosting needed trainings on a wide variety of training topics. Assists staff in developing program evaluation tools to measure effectiveness. As an Area positon this individual will host monthly or quarterly meetings with Service Unit partners on a wide variety of topics. Position will attend State and Regional emergency preparedness meetings as needed. Serves as the Area Consultant to GPAIHS environmental health staff, service unit safety officers, infection control specialists/practitioners and service unit radiation safety officers on matters pertaining to institutional environmental health & safety. infection control, WebCident, radiation safety, disaster management & preparedness, security aspects of health care accreditation, safety and health codes & laws (including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), federal Head Start regulations, and other federal and state agencies for matters relating to institutional environmental health.) Additionally, serves as the Great Plains Area Safety Officer and will provide reports to the GPA Safety Committee as needed. Employee will compose technical reports, memos and e-mails related to Institutional Environmental Health.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): General Health Science Series 0601 (opm.gov) Education: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-09 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing new employee health and safety orientations; maintaining/updating emergency response plans or procedures; collaborating with others to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous condition; assisting with Emergency Management activities; use specialized industrial hygiene equipment; performing safety officer duties such as: Environment of Care tours, investigations, PPE training; participate on an accrediting body assessment or closeout. GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: conducting periodic reviews of institutional programs and physical environments; developing, reviewing, revising guidelines and policies on safety management; providing industrial hygiene consultation services; planning reviews for new construction and renovation projects involving institutional facilities. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: You must possess a professional registration through a recognized organization or state, i.e., National Environmental Health Association Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). (MUST provide a copy of RS/REHS, CSP, Certification) Time In Grade: Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
