About the Position: This position is located with the Topography, Imagery & Geospatial Res Div Applications Branch with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL), located in Alexandria, VA.

Duties

Maintain program reference materials, project files and relevant background documents Trains, coaches, and mentors at least one junior employee on the concepts, methodologies, processes, and culture adopted by the organization. Communicates the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values and ensures these are integrated into work plans, products and services, work strategies, goals, and objectives. Guides new or junior personnel to understand their role in the overall mission, to actively participate in the work of the organization, to participate identifying issues to be resolved or methods to be improved. Maintains program reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures, and written instructions from the supervisor. Serves as a senior mentor to journeymen, analysts, specialists; provides guidance and advice on leadership, project management and/or communication issues. Serves as an objective confidant and advisor with whom the mentee may discuss work-related and other concerns related to career development and planning. Serves as a role model and source of information and experience, from which the mentee can select qualities most likely to help him or her achieve success.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Research Physical Scientist 1301:A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the DB-04 (GS-14 grade level) in the Federal service which includes experience participating as a Research Physical Scientist in complex engineering and scientific projects which includes research and development in advanced technology and scientific investigation; presenting and interpreting significant research and development findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: physical science and/or related engineering science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsPlanning and EvaluatingResearchTechnical Competence This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project and this pay band includes the General Schedule equivalent to the GS 12-14. To qualify for DB-04 level, applicants must possess specialized experience equivalent to the DB-02 or GS-11 grade level. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume.
