The primary purpose of this position is to conduct and oversee the operations, logistics, and sustainment of specialized seismic operations and serve as technical specialist of assigned geophysical mission equipment, ancillary support equipment and tools. Perform, train and assist field maintenance operations. Provide flight continuity serving as the primary point of continuity for field personnel.

Duties

-Global maintenance. Provides direction, control, diagnosis, and repair for global maintenance actions for seismic and infrasonic data acquisition subsystems, power subsystems and communications subsystems for equipment suites at 34 remote worldwide locations. -Technical advice and training. Provides technical equipment advice and training to flight members and assistance to senior management on policies, procedures, and capabilities applicable to automated geophysical data collection and monitoring systems based on field experience and/or analysis and evaluation of component failure rates. -Performs travel in operations to assure perform routine sensor maintenance and emergency repairs. Executes preventive maintenance routines to limit breakdowns and system failures to critical mission equipment. -Responds to equipment status reports or maintenance assistance requests from field locations outlining maintenance requirements and assists to resolve complex or unusual technical problems. Evaluates problems with respect to total system effect, notes possible trends, determines probable resolution, coordinates proposed action and directs maintenance activities through host country personnel, bilateral partners, contractors, and other Department of Defense components.

  • Formal training or undergraduate degree work (or completion) in scientific analysis and/or technical applications disciplines is desirable.

Qualifications

This is a GG-11 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-11 duties for the "Technician" work category are at the "Senior" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-11 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: knowledge of subsurface systems operations and maintenance. This level of knowledge is essential to support the judgements the incumbent makes in performing assigned duties. Understanding of the science, technologies, methods and US policies governing the detection, collection and analysis of geophysical data for treaty monitoring, international inspection regimes and homeland defense. Requires the ability to make interpretations and decisions where large amounts of uncertainty exist due to continual program or policy changes, technological development, or conflicting or ambiguous requirements. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of specialized geophysical sensors, maintenance, data collection, transmission and operations and their unique operating environments and requirements. 2. Knowledge of logistics management, as well as maintenance processes, concepts, theories, practices, and policies to ensure support and travel issues are properly considered to successfully repair of geophysical collection systems worldwide. 3. Knowledge of geophysical sensors systems, and associated skills to accomplish failure identification, tracking, and repair. 4. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, to provide briefings, reports, technical advice and recommendations to others; as well as establish effective working relationships. 5. Knowledge of security procedures to successfully conduct operations and maintain control of classified material. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONT'D: 1. Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed. 2. Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. 3. This is a Mission-Essential (ME) position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020.42, Defense Continuity Plan Development. 4. This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. The duties of this position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and CANNOT become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDI 1200.07, Screening the Ready Reserve). PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
