The primary duties of this position are operating trucks operating up to a 2-ton capacity or 24,000 to 26,999 GVW with dual pull wheels, automatic or 5 speed manual transmissions and hydraulic lift tail gate transporting laundry and supplies on a requested basis within the State of Alabama. Incumbent also operates station cars, vans and buses.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Loads and unloads large package or other items being transported; lifting, pushing and pulling objects up to 100 pounds. Stoops, bends, stretches, climbs in congested areas. Operates a box truck for daily transport of clean and dirty linen to support Tuscaloosa, Montgomery and Tuskegee VA laundry service. Knowledge and skills to operate the following transportation vehicles: 2-ton flatbed truck, 2 ? ton box truck. Maintains a a valid State of Alabama Driver's License. Operates up to a 2-ton capacity or 24,000 to 26,999 GVW with dual pull wheels, automatic or 5 speed manual transmissions and hydraulic lift tail gate. Drives in all kinds of traffic and weather conditions. Stays mentally alert and physically able at all times, performing duties in a safe and competent manner. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent drives in all kinds of traffic, day or night, and weather on open roads or in dense congested city areas and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds. Incumbent makes local and out of town trips and occasionally works weekends. Incumbent is subject to engine and road noises for long periods of time, hot and cold temperatures, slippery roadways due to rain, snow, ice, etc.
