You will serve as a CHEMIST in the of Navy Drug Screening Laboratory (NDSL) NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL.

Duties

You will certify data for accuracy and reliability, ensuring it is scientifically sound information. You will provide other technicians working on special projects with didactic and practical training demonstrations of all facets of technical work. You will report observed workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, or property damage to the Supervisor. You will perform computer software spreadsheet and database applications and word processing as necessary. You will supervise four Physical Science Technicians in the Screening Division of the Initial Testing Department.

Qualifications

POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized Experience: Utilizing record keeping, proficiency testing and methods development necessary to assure acceptable quality control of laboratory analysis. Analyzing industrial hygiene samples by utilizing wet laboratory procedures and/or more sophisticated analysis using advanced instrumentation including gas liquid chromatography, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, gas chromatograph mass spectrophotometer and/or microscopy. Reviewing background information submitted with the samples. Studying the chemistry of any known substances to be identified. • Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. MUST submit transcripts w/application. FAILURE TO SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.

OR

• Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. MUST submit transcripts w/application. FAILURE TO SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.
