You will serve as a CHEMIST in the of Navy Drug Screening Laboratory (NDSL) NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL.

Duties

You will certify data for accuracy and reliability, ensuring it is scientifically sound information. You will provide other technicians working on special projects with didactic and practical training demonstrations of all facets of technical work. You will report observed workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, or property damage to the Supervisor. You will perform computer software spreadsheet and database applications and word processing as necessary. You will supervise four Physical Science Technicians in the Screening Division of the Initial Testing Department.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

POSITIVE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: This position has a Positive Education Requirement. In order to verify that you meet the positive education qualifications for this position, you MUST submit a complete copy of your transcripts. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized Experience: Utilizing record keeping, proficiency testing and methods development necessary to assure acceptable quality control of laboratory analysis. Analyzing industrial hygiene samples by utilizing wet laboratory procedures and/or more sophisticated analysis using advanced instrumentation including gas liquid chromatography, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, gas chromatograph mass spectrophotometer and/or microscopy. Reviewing background information submitted with the samples. Studying the chemistry of any known substances to be identified. Education

ALL Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Basic Requirements:
  • Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. MUST submit transcripts w/application. FAILURE TO SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.
OR
  • Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. MUST submit transcripts w/application. FAILURE TO SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS WILL RESULT IN AN INELIGIBLE RATING.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of a Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or Master's or equivalent graduate degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH RESUME TO QUALIFY
