This position is part of the Office of Science - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As Assistant Deputy Executive Director (Biologist), you will serve as the Office of Science liaison to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the White House. Participate in strategy and planning discussions and in meetings, involving present and future science, technology and related public policy concerns.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Conducting critical and intensive investigative research studies in the field of biology, ecology, or other applicable physical science directed towards the extensive development of new avenues for further studies.
Developing and preparing portions of analytical documents to communicate with parties internal and external to the organization.
Providing technical guidance on proposed research projects and programs of interest to the organization and agency.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
