Duties

In this Mission Support Assistant position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security individuals involved in providing clerical support and assistance in applying technical procedures, methods, and techniques in support of the missions and functions of the agency. This position starts at a salary of $42,022.00 (GS-6, Step 1) to $54,625.00 (GS-6, Step 10) with promotion potential to $60,703 (GS-7 Step 10). Typical duties of this assignment include: Assisting higher graded staff and managers in providing direct advice and guidance to USBP sector employees and managers on various policy and procedural aspects of personnel/payroll processing, budget, travel, worker's compensation, logistics, and administrative programs. Analyzing, evaluating, and improving the efficiency of internal administrative processes, workflow, and reporting/tracking systems. Participating in preparing workload and productivity reports, evaluating areas for process improvements, and determining root causes for problems and processing errors by gathering and compiling data; entering data into database programs; evaluating it for patterns or trends; and generating various management reports. Working with on-site and inter-office personnel employees on basic personnel staffing assistance, reports, and a variety of entry-level personnel actions utilizing the appropriate automated systems.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-6 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing customer service by answering routine questions, directing callers to the appropriate staff, and maintaining a calendar to include major events for planning purposes. Utilizing automated systems to search various government and open market sources for information on purchasing products and/or services. Developing, evaluating, and advising on the methods related to administrative or records management systems' directives management, mail management, or forms management. Providing information regarding training opportunities and assisting in arranging in-house training sessions as needed. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/23/2023.
