About the Position:
Fort Gordon is approximately 139 miles east of Atlanta, GA; 80 miles southwest of Columbia, SC; 156 miles west of Charleston, SC; 175 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC; and 127 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia. Fort Gordon's location is in the Augusta metropolitan area (also known as the Central Savannah River Area-CSRA) and is an easy drive to Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Charlotte, the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, and the mountains.
Duties
Serves as the Chief, Police/Provost Marshal Division using initiative and judgement to provide leadership, sound technical advice on adherence to applicable principles/standards and overall accomplishment of program objectives.
Exercises law enforcement jurisdiction at Fort Gordon, Georgia with responsibility for investigating, apprehending or detaining persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal law of the United States.
Recommends solutions, defends actions taken and coordinates implementation of major changes in mission/functions, methods, procedures, training, funding, organization, and staffing
Reviews and develops implementation plans for new or changed laws, policies, and regulations affecting the section's programs.
Performs a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Personnel are required to obtain and maintain a valid state (and military) driver's license and possess the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and perform routine vehicle maintenance.
- This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment). Personnel must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis.
- Must successfully graduate from the DA Army Civilian Police Academy within one year of hiring.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This is a mission essential position.
- TDY required 5% of the time.
- The wearing of uniforms is required and carrying of a handgun is required.
- Position mandates the incumbent to carry a firearm and be trained annually on the extendable baton, pepper spray, and Taser.
- Incumbent must be able to pass physical examination and undergo annual physical examinations to ensure fitness for duty.
- Incumbent must pass the physical agility test on an annual basis.
- Incumbent must successfully complete and maintain CPR certification (bi-annually) and First Aid (annually).
- Position requires to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IPR).
- This is an inclement weather position.
- Work may require flying on military aircraft.
- Positions requires rotating, shifts and other than normal duty hours to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
- Overtime and emergency overtime may be required. May be required to report as a member of an Emergency Response force.
- IAW AR190-56 and AR 670-10 a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene must be maintained at all times.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: serving as a Law Enforcement Operations Officer providing guidance and assistance to staff members; planning for current and long range operations and developing methods and procedures affecting overall operations.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
NOTE: This position is designated critical sensitive. The incumbent of this position is designated as essential personnel.
NOTE: This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
NOTE: The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill (Public Law 106-554, Section 639) imposes requirements on federal agencies that employ law enforcement officers. P.L. 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after January 20, 2001.
NOTES: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DOD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
