The position of Environmental Health Specialist is located in the Division of Environmental Health Services, Blackfeet Service Unit, in Browning, Montana. The position reports to Director of Division of Environmental Health Services or designee. This Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) is being re-advertised to solicit additional applications. Duties

Plan, implement and evaluate procedures and studies of safe water, solid and hazard management, food protection, occupational health & safety, injury prevention, etc.. Conduct and report on environmental health survey of Federal and Tribal entities, i.e., schools, health care, gaming, industrial, drug rehabilitation, recreational, etc.. Assist with the development of occupational safety polices, procedures, regulations, employee training program and public education materials. Train others on how to manage environmental health hazards within the community using established safety codes and standards, i.e., safety code elements, infection control, facility accreditation, hazard communication and occupational health.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position to be filled. This degree must be from an education program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-7: 1 year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement OR your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Monitor health and safety conditions in residential, industrial, commercial and recreational settings; collect and analyze samples to determine if a hazard to public health exists. GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: experience with management concepts, planning, application and evaluation of a comprehensive injury prevention and environmental health program; apply knowledge of principles and techniques used in the full range of injury prevention activities; develop plans to help reduce the possibility of violations. GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree OR your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Coordinate performance improvement activities and projects throughout a clinic or hospital; assist with development and implementation of processes to improve patient care; facilitate quality improvement activities and process improvements throughout a medical facility. Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR GS-11: Selective factors are knowledge, skills, abilities, or special qualifications that are in addition to the minimum requirements in a qualification standard, but are determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Professional Credentials: Must possess and maintain a valid, current, unrestricted Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REH) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) by the National Environmental Health Association or reciprocal registration through a state registration examination. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
