This position is for Boiler Plant Operators at the VA Central Western Mass Healthcare Care system located in Leeds, Massachusetts. The primary purpose of the position is to operate and maintain the facility Boiler Plant. Recruitment Incentive may be paid to a highly qualified individual

Duties

MAJOR D TIES The Boiler Plant Operator is required to operate 3 high pressure fire tube boilers with an accumulative steam capacity of 75,000 pounds an hour. The Operator is responsible for maintaining efficient combustion levels, safe water levels, keeping water column free of sludge, blowing tubes, operating and checking fuel oil pumps, feed water pumps, hot well pumps, hot well, deareator and storage tanks., logging operating data from instruments, operating fresh water booster pumps, and aiding in the repair and maintenance of Boiler Plant operating equipment. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts Position Description Title/PD#: Boiler Plant Operator/PD00225A Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to perform duties indoors and outdoors in high and low temperature, wet, dry and dusty conditions. Also may be required to work in confined quarters while handling tools and materials which are conductive to cuts, abrasions, burns scalds, and electric shock. In addition, may be required to do heavy lifting and work on breaching, roof, ventilators, steam mufflers and other high places, and must have strength and agility to move tools and equipment under all conditions.
