This National Guard position is for a DIRECTOR OF FORCE SUPPORT, Position Description Number D2696000 and is part of the OH 121 Air Refueling Wing, Ohio Air National Guard.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Force Support Squadron (FSS) Director and to exercise first and second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the FSS.
Duties
As a DIRECTOR OF FORCE SUPPORT, GS-0301-13, you will perform the following duties:
1. Directs, plans, organizes, and oversees all support services activities of the Force Support Squadron (FSS) to supported organizational units. Coordinates work of force support personnel outside of the organization through relationships with senior leaders and career field managers. Serves as the primary advisor to senior leaders within and outside of the organization on all military personnel and force support matters within the Wing. Directs force support activities within the Wing to include Personnel, Base Contingency Operations, Food Services, Mortuary & Casualty Operations, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Fitness, Family Readiness, Force Development, Personnel Readiness, Postal and Honor Guard. Provides work oversight, training, and direction to Commander's Support Staffs. May direct Recruiting and Retention operations for the Wing. Manages multiple resource budgets with differing legal requirements and timelines for execution. Makes decisions on complex work problems presented by subordinate supervisors. Finds and implements ways to improve processes, eliminate bottlenecks, promote team building, and improve business practices. Exercises delegated authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of all military personnel and manpower activities within the Wing. Establishes long-range strategic vision, goals, and objectives for work performed by the organization and all subordinate employees.
2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides feedback on observed strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommends awards when appropriate and approves within-grade increases. Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and recommends action to higher authority in more serious disciplinary matters. Prepares documentation to support actions taken. Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for training (formal and on-the-job) to maintain and improve job performance. Encourages self-development. Approves master leave schedule assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads and traditional holiday vacation time. Discharges security responsibilities by ensuring education and compliance with security directives for employees with access to classified or sensitive material. Recognizes and takes action to correct situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates. Applies EEO principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination. Assures reasonable equity of performance standards and rating techniques developed by subordinates across the FSS. Periodically reviews position descriptions to ensure accuracy, and the most effective utilization of personnel resources. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which provided a general
knowledge of principles of organization, management, and administration. Experience
using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training in
program or managerial experience in a type of work or a combination of functions
directly related to the position to be filled or in comparable work or functions. Experience
developing and recommending policy; organizing and carrying out specific programs,
evaluating and recommending changes in methods of operations. Experience in
supervisory, staff or technical work which included study, analysis or evaluation leading
to the development or improvement of managerial or administrative policies, practices
and procedures. Experience preparing written communications and oral presentations.
AND
Experience
in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes
leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
