Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to certify acceptable performance, test, repair, trouble-shoot, operationally check and modify aircraft turbine and auxiliary power units, and associated propulsion system components.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: If your resume does not include a narrative description of how you meet the GENERAL, SPECIALIZED experiences, and OTHER requirements, you may lose consideration for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, and reach. The incumbent frequently lifts equipment and components weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Work assignments require the employee to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work assignments are performed indoors and outdoors in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, or work stands; and in extreme temperature and humidity. The incumbent is subject to dangers from toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, paints, and solvents and is required to wear protective clothing when required. Dangers also involve high-pressure air and fluids, and fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gear, speed brakes, and flaps. Work assignments are subject to engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, and flammable and/ or explosive aircraft fuels, etc. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and bone fractures. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709. NOTES TO CANDIDATES: a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor. b. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard. c. This type of appointment is expected to extend beyond one year, not to exceed 4 years. Separation will be preceded by a 30-day notice when services are no longer needed. Permanent technicians will remain on permanent status if selected. o. Selectee informed in advance of the reasons for and conditions of this temporary promotion may return to his/her former grade when temporary action is no longer needed and may be effected at any time without adverse action procedures. p. Temporary promotion may be extended for an additional two years, not-to-exceed four year, with National Guard Bureau approval. q. Should the need for temporary time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion may be converted to a permanent action without further competition. r.
