Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:
Wage and Investment Customer Account Services
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
Provides telephone support to a wide range of customers with varying degrees of understanding, or who possess
a professional understanding of tax law regulations relative to information returns.
Provides full explanations to information reporting, information return preparation and filing inquiries
initiated by customers, and through generated notices, or internally generated assignments.
Assists in providing technical information to taxpayers on a wide range of information returns, and limited
assistance in other tax areas (e.g., filing, underreporting, password reset, and/or other requirements).
Assists in providing assistance and guidance to customers on a wide range of information returns and forms
including, but not limited to, Forms 1096, 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, 8935, W-2G, W-2 and W-3,
either electronically or on paper forms.
Assists customers in answering Service-initiated requests on information reporting and filing.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
BASIC REQUIREMENT :
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:GS-05You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal government. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information, and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information, and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.
OR
EDUCATION: A Bachelors degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience equivalent to that described above.
Specialized Experience GS-06: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05). Examples of qualifying experience include positions dealing with the public analyzing tax or accounting issues. Experience must have included analyzing and resolving problems, adjusting accounts, and providing information on financial issue.
GS-06 TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Under merit promotion procedures, Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Time is credited based on calendar time served in a grade, regardless of the number of days or hours worked. If you currently hold or have previously held a position at the same (or equivalent) or higher grade/level in the Federal government as of this announcement, you will meet the TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS. Specialized Experience GS-07: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06). Examples of qualifying experience may have been gained in positions in a bookkeeping or accounting position, or in a position dealing with the public analyzing tax or accounting problems and resolving high-conflict differences through use of established guidelines, or in a position dealing with customers in person, in writing or by telephone in a variety of situations that require solicitation of information to identify concerns and offer solutions. Your position may have included interpreting account information to address a variety of issues, guidelines, and past transactions. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance.
