This position is located at the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC), located in Polacca, Arizona. Incumbent functions as an independent primary eye care provider performing the full range of professional optometric physician duties; incumbent examines, diagnoses, treats diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures.
Duties
Diagnose and treat a wide range of eye disease as well as diagnose and facilitate the management of related systematic conditions such diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid, sexually transmitted diseases and rheumatologic conditions.
Treatment of visual disorders through prescription of corrective lenses (to include contact lenses) and vision training and pharmacological means.
Provides primary and specialized optometric care and services to a wide array of unusual vision hazards such as chemicals, explosives, toxic substances, flying particles or otherwise harmful radiations. Develops new methods of protection or prevention of these hazards.
Keeps timely and appropriate medical records in compliance with professional, facility, Phoenix Area and other applicable guidelines.
Where appropriate, functions as preceptor/clinical educator for formal optometry internship and/or residency program in collaboration with the Residency Coordinator, and associated College of Optometry.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for GS-11 grade level.
GS-12: In addition to the requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
One year completion of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training; or
One year of professional experience as an optometrist that is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience in providing technical guidance to optometry staff; reviewing and/or revising policies and procedures; assisting with quality assurance activities, etc. Experience in hospital-based optometry includes the diagnosis and management of ammetropias, ocular infections, ocular inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, dry eye conditions, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, ocular trauma and binocular dysfunctions; and operating optometric diagnostic and treatment instruments and equipment.
