The COMPACT Act Services Program Coordinator position functions as part of the Mental Health (MH) team. The incumbent will serve as a liaison between the Community Care team and the rest of the MH service, and will promote full-service collaboration, across teams. The Program Coordinator has the knowledge and experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgement, especially in crisis intervention and in working within an interdisciplinary team.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU The incumbent has technical, administrative and clinical responsibility for the provision of acute care specific to suicide prevention, including crisis and Same-Day services, psychosocial and diagnostic assessment, evaluation for admission and/.or needed follow-up treatment, community referrals, and consultation to the Medical Center staff, as appropriate. Incumbent incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges. Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of access to COMPACT Act services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment servicers. Incumbent is able to demonstrate the ability to design changes based on empirical findings. The incumbent works closely with the Suicide Prevention Division Director and the MH leadership team to remove obstacles to receiving all MH treatment, including the quality and accessibility of MH treatment within the COMPACT Act eligible population of patients. The incumbent will need to identify processes that improve patient flow throughout Community Care, the VAMC MH Service, and of patients using community-based services. The incumbent explains and gains support of employees for developing, implementing and managing policies and establishing goals, in addition to working to achieve the objectives of government-wide personnel programs and policies. He or She will administer information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided, and will engage in and promote engagement in ongoing quality improvement projects within the Service and section. The ability to develop and implement information systems to track service activities, including visits, referrals, and inpatient days of care, patent demographics, equipment utilization and patient satisfaction is required of the incumbent. The incumbent will also need to develop, implement and evaluate clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services. Advises management on the necessary program goals, priorities and major work schedules, develops short and long-term staffing and equipment suggestions to supervisory staff. The incumbent is accountable for planning and providing staff development and training to address identified deficiencies and to maintain and enhance skills, as well as recommend highly valuable staff trainings to Education and MH Service leadership. Offers consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experienced and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills. Demonstrates the ability to teach and mentor staff and students in the special area of practice and to provide clinical supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 - 4:00 pm, including some weekend, holiday, early morning or late afternoon tours of duty may be required. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C.? 7403(f). Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience: Care coordination, program coordination and administration, development of local program goals and measurement of clinical and program outcomes, development of data-driven, continuous quality improvement system with established goals and outcomes to evaluate and document the program's effectiveness References: Meets the qualification standard for the GS 12 Social Worker (Program Coordinator), as defined in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G39, Social Worker Qualification Standard GS-185 Veterans Health Administration. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12. Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 pound); light carrying (under 15 pounds); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (intermittent); standing (intermittent); hearing (aid permitted); hearing without aid. The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
